About the Artist

Born in San Antonio TX; when other kids were dropped left at malls or other 'interesting' locales, I was dropped off at libraries, museums, zoos, and botanical gardens-- where security guards and groundskeepers at times got to know me by name due to all the reminders that enjoying botany and experiencing art didn't always mix with playing G.I. Joe.
I stacked up on reference books, fantasy novels, some sci-fi, and lots of world mythology, as well as occasionally art books and biographies.
I dreamed of being a great fantasy author, comic book artist, and writer as well as at times: an actress, veterinarian, forensic anthropologist, psychiatrist, archeologist, librarian, game designer, FBI Profiler, and musician. The art has been the biggest constant of all my loves, even if I currently do not work in comic book styles.
My parents fanned the flames further by sending me to summer day camps at museums and at the Southwest Craft Center downtown, on top of the general outings and drop-offs during the school year after class let out.
My main inspirations early on were Western comics and Eastern art and animation. I also was drawn to the Chicano and Mexican folk art movements, surrealists, and rock art from around the world. Stained glass and religious icons were another thing that surrounded me at an early age, the way patterns can be made of glass and catch the light still a great love.
Body modification, as statements of individuality, conformity and/or beauty such as tattoos and theatrical makeup (as found on the Gothic scene and in the visual kei forms of Japanese modern music) also became more and more of a fascination of mine, and I enjoy invoking the patterning and bold shapes and lines with my work of all these realms, whether seeming more like tribal tattoos, the lines of stained glass, or comic book heroes and heroines.
